From 28 September to 2 October 2026, the University of Brescia will host the advanced training course “Tuberculosis: Clinical and Public Health Management”
The course will provide healthcare professionals and specialists in training with a comprehensive overview of tuberculosis, addressing both its clinical management and its broader public health implications.
The programme will cover:
- The biological history and epidemiology of tuberculosis infection and disease
- Clinical presentation of pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis
- Current diagnostic challenges and future perspectives in tuberculosis diagnosis
- Therapeutic challenges and emerging treatment approaches, with particular attention to multidrug-resistant tuberculosis
- Protection of healthcare workers
- Contact investigation and management
- Tuberculosis in immunocompromised patients
- National and international tuberculosis control programmes
Professor Daniela Maria Cirillo, team leader for IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele within the BreathForDx consortium, will be among the course faculty, contributing her expertise in clinical microbiology and tuberculosis diagnosis.
The session dedicated to future diagnostic approaches is particularly relevant to the work of BreathForDx, which is investigating the potential of exhaled breath aerosol sampling as a non-invasive approach to support the diagnosis and screening of respiratory infections, including tuberculosis.
By bringing together clinical practice, public health strategies and emerging diagnostic perspectives, the course will offer an opportunity to strengthen knowledge and encourage discussion on current and future approaches to tuberculosis control.

Accreditation: The course is accredited for Italian Continuing Medical Education (ECM) credits.
The registration fee is €802, excluding accommodation expenses. A reduced fee of €602 is available for residents and other healthcare professionals enrolled in specialist training programmes.
The course will be activated upon reaching a minimum of 16 participants.
The initiative is organised under the patronage of STOP TB Italia, the UNESCO Chair of the University of Brescia, and the Italian Society of Tropical Medicine and Global Health (SIMET).
